PILOT PROJECT EQUIPS STUDENTS WITH TABLETS TO PROMOTE CAREERS IN HEALTH SCIENCES

Philadelphia— Christmas is coming early for a group of Philadelphia students!

The Uncommon Individual Foundation (UIF), a Devon based non-profit has teamed up with HealthWorks Academies and the Kensington Health Sciences Academy(KHSA) to provide invaluable mentoring for students exploring careers in the health-sciences field.

On Monday December 21, 2015 at 9:30am, officials from UIF will present free tablets to more than 30 ninth grade students at Kensington Health Sciences Academy.  The tablets will enable them to participate in OnTrack, an e-learning platform designed by UIF to help students navigate high school successfully and achieve employment in health-sciences. As part of the pilot project, students will keep the tablets throughout their high school careers! In addition, HealthWorks Academies will match each student with a mentor working in the healthcare field.

UIF Founder, Dr. Richard Caruso believes a solid education combined with mentoring is the key to an individual’s personal success and happiness.

"The power of mentoring makes it possible to discover and release the uncommon individual that resides within each of us, “ says Dr. Caruso who was named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2006.

The Uncommon Individual Foundation has been mentoring students and entrepreneurs for 30 years.  On the lifelong journey to personal success and happiness, the power of mentoring makes it possible to discover and release the uncommon individual that resides within each of us.

KHSA is the only high school in the School District of Philadelphia that offers career majors in Health Related Technology and Dental Assisting.

HealthWorks Academies provides a turn key program to high schools, linking STEM education with professional careers in the healthcare and life sciences industry. HealthWorks provides curriculum and materials, online support, teacher training, and a pipeline to universities and industry.
